  • Care instructions KohlerKnives Damascus knives

This damascus knife is made out of several layers of carbon- and nickel steel. The difference to a conventional knife made from stainless steel is, that the blade of a KohlerKnives knife is much more sharp and durable.

Be sure, not to leave a Damascus knife in water nor put it into a dishwasher. Higher temperatures (> 60°C) may harm the knife in hard- and sharpness. Always clean the blade instantaneous after usage with lukewarm water and degreasing dishwashing detergent.

To have a long-lasting sharpness of the blade and that the knife won’t rust, always dry the knife immediate and apply a small amount of camellias oil. This oil is neutral, 100 % free from acids and 100 % food-safe. You don’t have to remove it before you use the knife to cut food.

To re-sharp a Damascus knife you never should use a conventional knife sharpener (Pull-through two stones). The grind angle of a Damscus knife is much lower compared to a conventional knife. A conventional sharpener will ruin your Damascus knife over the time. Your KohlerKnives Damascus knife has a lifelong sharpening service at the headquarter of KohlerKnives in Switzerland.

When you use a Damascus knife to cut acidic food like citrus fruits, tomatoes etc. or very warm food, it may happen that a patina will appear on the blade. This is the result of a normal use of the knife. If you desire to clean this patina away, we can do it at the next service.

  • Used materials

Each KohlerKnives knife ist a unique hand crafted knife made in Switzerland.

Next to carbon- and nickel steel we use copper, brass and pure nickel to refine the blades.

For the knive guards (protection located between the blade and the handle) we use different ferrous or mainly non-ferrous metals like nickel silver, copper, bronze, brass, stainless or damascus steel.

Handle materials are mainly manufactured from noble or high-grade woods from all over the world. We also use native woods, which we stabilize by our own with a special procedure, some of them combined with pigments. All of them are protected against environmental influences. Further used materials are carbon fibers with inlets of copper or brass, polyurethane in several colors, horn, epoxy resin combined with wood or other organic material.

All hoster were made by our own out of Kydex or leather.
